Daniel 11 Prophecy
Scripture
Daniel 11:21-23
He will be succeeded by a contemptible person who has not been given the honour of royalty. He will invade the kingdom when its people feel secure, and he will seize it through intrigue. Then an overwhelming army will be swept away before him; both it and a prince of the covenant will be destroyed. After coming to an agreement with him, he will act deceitfully, and with only a few people he will rise to power.
History
The new KOTN, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, was not a king to begin with. He was referred to as a madman and saw himself as God on earth.
He rose to power through flattery, and the kings of Pergamus supported his cause along with the Syrians. Antiochus IV invades and conquers Egypt.
There is some dispute over the “prince of the covenant” phrase in the prophecy. Some believe it to refer to Antiochus IV’s enforced replacement of the high priest in the Jewish temple. Others believe the prince of the covenant refers to Cleopatra’s son: Ptolemy Philomater. He was joined in covenant with Antiochus’s sister, but Antiochus was to destroy him.
I think the latter explanation is correct as the scripture says the prince of the covenant will be destroyed. So the context of this verse points to something that has not yet happened at this stage.
Antiochus IV Epiphanes befriended Ptolemy Philometer as his forces were only small at this time.
